Course Selection for Rising 10th-12th Grade Students
Core academic courses (grade level math, science, English, and social studies) and required PEs will be reviewed and adjusted by your school counselors.
There are only two key actions that rising 10th-12th graders must take for course selection. The deadline for both was March 15, 2024: Enter elective requests into Infinite Campus, and optionally submit an add-ons form if interested in such add-ons as Honors, WBL, etc.

- ELECTIVE COURSE SELECTION instructions - Most rising 10th-12th graders completed this during a course selection activity on March 8, 2024. In addition to having a visual walkthrough on a big screen in the room, students will have paper copies of this instruction/reference sheet.
- ADD-ONS FORM (optional) - Must be submitted using student Google account.
Includes Honors application AND ways to express interest in...
Personal Fitness waiver,
Work-Based Learning (rising 11th and 12th graders),
Office Aide (rising 11th and 12th graders),
different ways to handle world language credits,
using certain CTAE pathway courses in place of Chemistry (rising 11th and 12th graders),
taking Physical Science instead of Physics (generally just rising 12th graders), and/or
opting out of College Readiness Math (rising 12th graders who took Foundations of Algebra).
Students cannot enter requests for these directly into their Infinite Campus selections, because these require approval or further small-group/individual conversation.
For Honors classes specifically, this is *THE* way to request Honors and it has a strict deadline. Some of the other add-ons are more flexible, but we rely on this form so we can reach interested students more effectively.
Course Selection FAQs
Almost all of the questions school counselors/staff receive about course selection are answered in the Course Selection Info/Instructions doc within list item #1 above. To help your school counselors address individual questions more efficiently, please carefully review at least the Course Selection Info/Instructions doc BEFORE asking questions. If you do not find the answer addressed by info in that document or below, please email your school counselor (see Contact Us page).
We hope these answers to our frequently asked questions so far are helpful, too:
We hope these answers to our frequently asked questions so far are helpful, too:
- Something looks wrong with one of my core classes or required PEs...do I need to be worried about that? Nope! Your counselors are in the process of reviewing and fine-tuning ALL students' core needs. At this time, you only need to worry about entering your elective selections in Infinite Campus, and completing the add-ons form if you are interested in any of the add-ons.
- I've changed my mind on something. Can I adjust my elective picks? Yes, you can still edit/re-save selections on your academic plan in Infinite Campus through the deadline stated above.
- How do I apply for Honors? Submit an add-ons form (see list item #2 above). That is the ONLY way to apply for Honors, and you must submit your add-ons form by deadline defined above to be considered.
- Can you tell me more about...
Honors classes?
Spanish test-out?
Spanish opt-out?
Work-Based Learning?
Office-Aide?
Other ways to handle my upper grade sciences?
College Readiness Math opt-out?
Submit the add-ons form (see above). That is what prompts the appropriate school staff to reach out to you with more info about the add-ons you've expressed interest in. Also, most of what you need to know about add-ons up front is explained in the course selection info/instructions sheet (see list item #1 above). - Why isn't Dual Enrollment on the add-ons form? The deadline for completing the Fall 2024 Dual Enrollment admissions checklist at NMHS was March 1. That was after a Dual Enrollment parent night, multiple in-school sessions about DE options, and about a month of announcements for how to apply. Starting the admissions process now might not leave enough time for your admissions materials to be processed in time for a Fall 2024 start, but in that case you could potentially start in the Spring 2025 semester instead. See our Dual Enrollment page for more details.
- I'm on the ______ team next year and need a certain PE elective. What/where is it?! Regardless of the athletic activity you plan to participate in, the recommended course is listed as simply "Physical Conditioning" in the subject area box for "Other." Include it as one of your "top picks."
- Do I select fewer electives if I'm planning on Work-Based Learning? No--please enter your elective preferences as if WBL will not happen. That way, if WBL somehow doesn't work out, we would know your elective preferences and not have to choose something for you. We will factor WBL into your selections at a later time.

Pathways at NMHS - All Murray County Schools high school graduates need to complete a Pathway. A Pathway is a set of three related courses in sequence. Our Pathways fall into three broad subjects: Career/CTAE, Fine Arts, and Other - Journalism. Students may also complete an Advanced Academic Pathway along the way, but cannot solely depend on that to be their Pathway. You can use this Pathways document for help in selecting the right Pathway courses on your class registration form. Each Pathway's courses are listed in the required order on this document. (Note: This is a list of Pathways at NMHS, but does not have all elective options we offer. For the full list of electives, please see the Course Selection Info/Instructions doc linked near the top of this page.)
NMHS Graduation Checklist - This is the checklist we use to track students' progress towards graduation at NMHS. It summarizes state and local graduation requirements, options for Honors tracks, which NMHS courses fulfill HOPE/Zell Miller Scholarships' Rigor requirements, and which courses have a state standardized test. You can review your/your child's individual progress towards graduation in Student/Parent Portal's by clicking Academic Plan from the main menu.
Honors Recommendation Rubric - To join a/another Honors subject area, students must complete Honors applications by whatever method and deadline is directed in the course selection process. From there, Honors applications are processed according to this rubric.
For students wanting to continue an Honors track they're already in, there is no need to reapply. Their Honors status rolls up automatically to the following years unless they, a parent/guardian, or teacher in that subject specifically asks otherwise. For more information about maintaining Honors track status, please see the rubric.
