Individualized career & college development on YouScience
YouScience is provided for all GA public school students thanks to the Georgia Department of Education. Beginning in November 2017, this tool is linked to individual students' profiles on a central state database called SLDS. This means that a student can access their profile and progress seamlessly, even if they transfer to another school in Georgia. Murray County Schools students can access SLDS from their Infinite Campus student accounts:
NMHS counselors will use YouScience to facilitate BRIDGE Law activities (see our College & Career Planning main page for more about GA BRIDGE Law requirements and activities at NMHS). These designated activities with your counselors are designed to guide students through big-picture steps in the college and career planning process, and introduce students to tools (like YouScience) that can help in that process. As they say, though, "Rome wasn't built in a day," so all students are encouraged to use tools YouScience independently, not just during these annual BRIDGE activity days!
- Log into your Infinite Campus Portal.
- Once logged into your IC Portal account, look on the lower left-hand menu for "SLDS" and click it. This brings you to your SLDS home page. SLDS is the state's catch-all for your digital educational records--such details as your course history, state standardized testing (e.g., EOG and EOC tests), and more.
- From your SLDS home page, click the button for "My Career Plan." From your Career Plan page, you'll see several chevron-shaped buttons with links to different steps in the college/career exploration process. There are also buttons specifically for "Go to YouScience."
- YouScience is a high-quality aptitude test and interest inventory. Aptitude is another word for natural ability or talent. Many people turn out to be interested in careers that they actually have little aptitude for. Why does this matter? Well, would you want to invest time and money in higher education, only to find out that the program you're pursuing is not for you? Or spend years in a career that did not use your strengths? Instead, you could invest about 90 minutes in this aptitude assessment, and tap into a list of careers that are a fit for you, including several you might not have known existed--and save precious resources that might have been wasted otherwise.

Apprenticeships
Contrary to popular belief, there are plenty of satisfying careers with good wages and benefits that do not require a 4-year degree. For instance, many trade careers can be entered via an apprenticeship program. Did you know...
- Apprentices earn while they learn, reducing the potential to take on career training debt.
- 92% of apprentices retain employment after completing a Registered Apprenticeship program.
- The average starting wage after completing a Registered Apprenticeship program is $72,000.

College Board's Big Future [college exploration, with scholarship opportunity built in!]
Brought to you by the publisher of SAT, this tool meets a student wherever they're at in the college planning process and helps them make a plan. So, whether you're in 9th grade or 12th grade, have an idea of where you want to go or have no idea what options are out there, this tool can help!
Certain features of the college search tool don't require a login. However, saving your checkpoints in the planning process does, and by completing certain tasks you can be entered into scholarships drawings! You can use the same account to register for and see scores from PSAT/SAT testing. So, use your existing login if you have one, but if you don't have an account already you'll probably need one at some point for SAT testing anyway!
