I want to do Dual Enrollment. What do I need to do next? (Deadline for Fall '24: March 1, 2024)
1. Email Tammy Watkins (NMHS DE Counselor) to let her know you're interested and working on/have completed these other steps.
2. Complete the application for the partner college(s) you'd like to take classes from and/or will qualify for.
These generally only need to completed once at the beginning of a student's DE experience with each college.
3. Complete the DE funding application on GA Futures. This requires setting up a GA Futures account first.
For directions, check out this guidesheet or this video demonstration. The student and parent most both complete their parts of this funding app each year of DE participation, and mark the correct college(s) they're participating with.
4. Complete the NMHS DE Contract & Selection Form.
2. Complete the application for the partner college(s) you'd like to take classes from and/or will qualify for.
- For GNTC application, go to www.gntc.edu, click "Apply Now," and follow prompts from there.
- For Dalton State application, head to Dalton State's application page. First it will direct you to set up a Nest Portal account. After setting up and confirming your account, use that account to access and complete the admissions application itself.
- Fill out our NMHS DE Contract/Selection ahead of each year of DE participation.
- DE has its challenges and rewards. Submission of this form--a required part of the DE admissions process at NMHS--serves as acknowledgement of the challenge that you are committing to. Additionally, this form shows the DE admissions guidelines specific to our partner colleges, and has fields where a DE applicant can indicate which DE courses they would like to register for.
- This NMHS DE Contract/Selection Form is to be completed in addition to, not instead of, our regular course selection activities. Students are instructed to complete the other course selection activities--including whatever Honors application is issued for the year--as if Dual Enrollment is not happening. That way, if DE does not work out as planned, you could still be on track to take Honors in the subject(s) of interest instead.
Also, if your DE interests require ACT or SAT scores, review the ACT/SAT Prep page and its accompanying reference sheet. This page/reference sheet is helpful whether testing for regular college admissions or for DE admissions. The reference sheet contains the ACT and SAT testing calendars, links for test registration and test prep, nearest test center, frequently asked questions about testing, and more. Printed copies of the ACT/SAT info sheet are available in the Counseling Office.
