Georgia Apply to College Month - Spring Edition!

3/14/2023

ATTENTION SENIORS--
Georgia colleges are once again banding together to offer you application fee waivers, in most cases all March long!  This includes public technical colleges, public colleges/universities, even many private colleges/universities.

  • The list of participating schools
  • How to collect on the waiver for your schools of interest (some are automatic, some require a code given on the list)
  • What part of the month your schools of interest are waiving fees.  Most are waiving fees all month, but some are for part of the month.

Senior BRIDGE & Apply to College Day Activity

11/16/2022

Happy Georgia Apply to College Month!
To celebrate this--
  • Most GA public colleges are waiving their application fees.
  • NMHS school counselors and admissions reps from local colleges are helping seniors tackle college applications today--commonly the first one for most seniors!  We are doing this in Physics classes.

To start this activity off, seniors are completing a required BRIDGE Law activity of declaring their general plan for after high school (e.g., unsure, 4-year college, 2-year college, technical college, military, workforce).
Then, they will have the rest of class time to work on a college application, with assistance from NMHS counselors and local college admissions reps--regardless of what higher ed option they apply to!

To see what we are up to, visit our 12th Grade BRIDGE Law Activity page.
For more information on what your senior should be doing for college/career planning, check out the Senior Info Night resources on our Senior Info page.

Special thanks to our local partner colleges, Dalton State College and Georgia Northwestern Technical College, for pitching in!

Invitations for Class of 2023 Google Classroom

10/17/2022

The counselors have set up this year's senior Google Classroom and distributed invitations.  All seniors are encouraged to join, as that is our primary way of announcing scholarship information, college/career reps visiting NMHS, helpful resources for senior year, etc.

If your senior has not already joined the Class of 2023 Classroom, have them check their email notifications from Classroom.  Invitations likely show as having come from Kevin Young, and they were sent October 6 or 7.  If you're not seeing it at first, check spam.  Still not seeing it?  Have your senior reach out to their counselor, and we'll gladly re-send your invitation!

Graduation Ceremony Info

5/12/2022

We share your excitement that graduation is around the corner!
Information about the graduation ceremony and video pre-orders can be found on our Senior Info page and in students' 12th Grade Advisement Google Classroom.

Course Selections for 2022-2023 (Deadline Feb. 5, instructons within...)

2/2/2022

It's time for students to give their input on how they want next year's schedule to go!

This week, NMHS school counselors and staff facilitated two advisement periods for students: one to preview their course selection options, and another to actually make their course selections.  Visit our Rising 10th-12th Grades Info page for more information!  Students have through February 5 to enter their elective selections into Student Portal, as well as submit an add-ons form if interested in either of the add-on options.

Required core/required PEs will be reviewed and adjusted on all students' academic plans by school counselors in the coming weeks.  Students do not need to worry about these items if they look a little "off" at this time.

Dual Enrollment Updates/Info for 2022-2023

1/27/2022

Dual Enrollment (DE) is an opportunity for Georgia high schoolers to take college classes in high school, earn both high school and college credit from those classes, and pay nothing out of pocket to do so!  Are you interested in learning more about this?

If so, we hope to see you at our Dual Enrollment Info Night!  It will be at 6-7 PM, Thursday, January 27, 2022, in the NMHS Theatre.  Learn the latest DE admissions procedures, understand both the benefits and challenges of DE, how it fits among your high school and college plans, and more!

Also, check out our updated Dual Enrollment page!  The NMHS DE Contract & Selection Form is available there for new DE students to complete.  Also, within a few business days of the DE Info Night, materials that were released at that night will also be posted to our DE page.
